Directions: Throughout the city
Barcelona is home to one of the world's most famous architects, Antonio Gaudi. His incredible, out-of-this-world designs can be found throughout the city. The most popular (and my favorite) is his unfinished cathedral, the Segrada Familia (Holy Family). I have visited it at least 6 times and still cant get enough. Each time I visit I spot something new in the extraordinarily detailed outside surface and the many religious stories represented by the sculptures covering it. To go inside there is a fee but it may well be worth it to ride the lift up to the top... I have yet to do that.
Parc Guell is my next favourite Gaudi attraction. As well as walking throughout the crazy designs of this interesting park, you also get a good view of the city. This is free, although there are a few museums throughout the Parc which have fees.
If you are a fan of Gaudi, look him up on the internet first and decide what you would like to see. I have also visited an apartment block he designed called La Pedrera, and by taking the head-set tour I learnt much about how and why he designed the way he did. He was inspired by nature, and everything was designed for perfect function as well as being so incredibly beautiful at the same time... such a genius!
