Project Idea - Laminated scrapbook

How to make a laminated scrapbook

How to make a laminated scrapbook / storybook / photo album
Little children love to have special little books all about them, so why not have a go at making a book for a special person about a special occasion. Here's an example of a scrapbook we made to show the story of a little girl's 4th birthday.

Step 1. Gather materials
Upon deciding on the story we wished to convey in our scrapbook, we gathered the following things:

Photographs
Photographs of that day.

Decorative paper
A variety of A4 paper (standard printer paper size.) Including colored, decorative and plain paper for printing patterns on.

Emellishments
A variety of embellishments to decorate each page. Including thin ribbon, flat lace, and doilies.

Images
A variety of images of the birthday girl's favorite things. Including stickers, stamps and clipart.

Note: To make this scrapbook one to last, we decided on laminating each page after they were decorated, and then bind the pages together using card rings. So, keeping this in mind, we only collected materials that were suitable (thin enough) for running through a laminating machine.

Step 2. Design and make your pages
Decide how many pages you want in you scrapbook. Create these pages from decorative A4 paper and/or plain A4 paper printed with clipart patterns, and then spread them all out in front of you.

(Patterns include horses, hearts, butterflies and more)

Arrange all your photos temporarily into position onto your pages.

Write a short story or caption for the photos on each page. We chose to use a computer program to type and print out our captions, playing around with sizes and colors of the fonts.

Cut out the captions and place temporarily onto the pages, along with all the other embellishments. As well as clipart images, we also printed out clipart frames, and then trimmed some photos to fit nicely within them. Paper doilies are also good for framing photos.

(Refer to photos for decoration ideas)

Play around with your layouts until you are happy, then lightly glue into position using a glue stick.

Step 3. Laminate and join your pages
Once your pages are finished and all glue is completely dried, you can laminate them. We have a laminator on hand, but if you don't most printing outlets have a laminating service at very little cost.

Once they are laminated, compile your pages, punch holes evenly down the left side of each page, and then feed through the card rings to join the pages together.

And there you have it... a special little book to give to a special little child.
